The “Widmung” recital, organised by Pro Cultura association and performed by Igor Cognolato, renowed Professor of Piano Performance at the Venice Conservatory, captivated the audience at the Cusanus-Akademie in Brixen. The pianist was received with overwhelming enthusiasm.
The recital, entirely dedicated to the music and figure of Robert Schumann, took the audience on a journey through the Romantic soul of 19th-century German music. Igor Cognolato masterfully performed four celebrated Lieder, including the magnificent “Widmung” that lent its name to the entire recital, transcribed for solo piano following the well-established 19th-century tradition.
Additionally, he presented two significant works: the “Symphonic Etudes” Op. 13 and the “Kreisleriana” Op. 16, the latter considered one of the great German composers’ most celebrated and complex masterpieces.
Schumann, a figure who profoundly shaped the destiny of the German musical school through his journal Neue Zeitschrift für Musik, experienced German Romanticism in a brief but profoundly impactful manner. Beyond its extraordinary beauty, his music is remarkable for the profound awareness with which the composer from Zwickau created it, leaving the world an astonishing legacy of beauty. Standing at the crossroads of poet and philosopher, Schumann shaped musical forms and trends with extraordinary depth.
After studying in Italy and Germany, Igor Cognolato delivered a brilliant performance in a recital that will remain etched in the hearts of those fortunate enough to attend.
